I have never used it, but I saw a reference to (lowercase "d") which is open source (free, I think). That is, as far as I know, there is no software that automatically converts negatives to positives with one click of a button and produces results that do not require further post-processing to get acceptable results. I can't say I like the subscription model, either, but for me, it is both convenient and affordable - and the Adobe photo software is capable of doing everthing I want to do (and much more).Īt present, I suspect there is no color inversion software that does not still require a fair amount of time and manual effort to get good results. If you are using a digital camera to copy your negatives, the best solutions *may* be plugins that only work with either Photoshop or Lightroom(?) And I am another person who thinks getting both Photoshop and Lightroom for $10(US) per month is worth the cost. For example, some scanners come with software, and there are third party software applications like VueScan and Silverfast that work only with scanners. You don't say what hardware you intend to use, and your choice of hardware may be significant when choosing software.
